Since laundry is a daily chore, I designed a must have for the laundry room…Mrs. Cooper’s NESTEGG Laundry Pocket Change Jar. My motto is, “If I find it in your pockets or at the bottom of the wash, it goes directly into my NESTEGG jar where it now belongs to Mom”. The label is 3 inches x 4 inches with rounded corners. Fits nicely on a Smooth Ball jar 4″ wide and 7″ tall by the manufacturer, BALL. I leave the top insert off so I can just pack the coins, and if I’m lucky dollar bills, in it for future shopping sprees. It is amazing how quickly my EGGNEST jar fills up and change is Good!

I wanted to design something to label large jars of lemonade and tea for a party. The idea morphed into using jar lids as hang tags for the jars. The jar lids were spray painted black to blend with the color theme of pink, yellow and black. I left room at the top of the labels where names could be written if you wanted to use them as name cards at a luncheon, tea or wedding reception. The small labels are printed on two inch round stickers while the large one is printed on a large square sticker and cut out by hand. I have included a couple of other labels that I designed to be part of this collection.

My intent in creating this design was to go beyond creating something that’s merely aesthetic– I wanted my design to be unforgettable and, more importantly, engaging. Mason jars are beautiful mediums of creativity, but the way it’s being used so far are geared predominantly towards women. The Gentleman’s Foolproof Pesto Sauce turns that notion on its head by branding it as something for males. Homemade pesto sauce with this label becomes the perfect gift for your son, husband, neighbor, nephew, boyfriend, etc. The design is clean. There’s a touch of humor in the details. It also comes with easy-to-follow suggestions at the back. The overall result encourages them to use the gift you give them and really own it as the staple, foolproof addition to any dish: one that can elevate it to culinary sophistication, or infuse it with the comforting flavors of home.

These labels have been based on the WL-6200 (7”x2,5”) design and they fit perfectly inside, leaving enough space for a small white border. The round label that goes on top of the lid was fit to size.
Following the idea of a Do-It-Yourself scrub, I thought it would be fit to have handmade labels. Since I’m making two versions of the scrub, also the labels are in two editions: “Summery” pink and “Wintery” blue. Cute illustrations and various quotes are what I would love to see in my bathroom, so I’ve incorporated them as well. The design has been made using ink and paint on paper first and then scanned in and retouched digitally. The labels are easily resizable for different jars and can be further customised by adding, for example, a little bit of gold or silver paint (like I did on the provided examples). It’s a fun way to make it one of a kind and even more enhance the feeling of this product being handmade.
Oh and don’t be surprised if you see the word “Yummy” on the label. Natural sugar scrubs taste exactly like old fashioned handmade hard candy!

About: Malta, a small island in the Mediterranean, was my greatest inspiration for this project, it is where I currently live and where the salt is sourced from. To reflect these origins, the shape of each label represents a salt crystal, while each image is a photograph, taken myself, of something synonymous with Malta, such as typical architecture or a ‘festa’ banner.As well as decorating these Maltese salt jars, these labels could easily be used as a template, and adapted to suit images promoting any given town, country etc.The jars I have used were originally filled with ‘Plasmon’ baby food.

The hand drawn type was inspired by Didot as its class gave sophistication to the humble contents, and having it drawn still keeps the human feel. else you would like to do with Mason Jars 🙂 HOW: Design labels for Mason Jars, for the lid, the front of both. Use any design skill from doodling, hand drawn to using a graphic design program. SUBMIT: Email PNG, GIF or JPEG images of the designed label and photos of the labels on a Mason Jar (Photos of the labeled mason jar in a setting with props is a plus) Include your name and country, the manufacturers name of the jars you used and any other information you would like to include to [email protected] with subject: Mason Jar Contest RULES: Use any size blank jar labels from Worldlabel or other label manufacturers, even plain paper and glue. Entries must be the participants new original work. Special consideration will be given to detail with an emphasis on branding. Submitting labels as a printable in a PDF template for download on our blog is also a plus. PRIZES:
